Something I’ve been doing for the last two weekends is exploring parts of Atlanta that I haven’t gotten to see enough of! Even though I’ve lived here for almost 5 years now, there’s always new things to see and near experiences to share with friends! It was such a nice change of pace to spend a day or half a day touring around the city these last two weekends so I thought it’d be great if I made a “How to spend a day in Atlanta” post in case you were looking to do the same thing! Without further or do, here’s how I spent last Saturday on the Atlanta Streetcar!
Atlanta StreetcarI was so excited to finally use the Streetcar! This is roughly a year old and really makes downtown Atlanta and Edgewood very accessible! It’s so cheap too- one way is $1 and a day pass is $3! The street car runs approximately every 10-15 minutes and you can see the times the streetcar is open here.
We jumped on the streetcar at Centennial Olympic Park and I will mark the stops I recommend below!
Park Place (Streetcar Stop)
This was the second stop on the Streetcar and we didn’t get out here but next time I want to stop here to walk around or grab a coffee! I’ve been here once before and liked that there were a good amount of restaurants located in one area (on Broad St NW)!
Sweet Auburn Market (Streetcar Stop)
This market has filled out so much in the last year and is so great! You can buy produce here, snacks, or meals as well! It is so underrated now with PCM and Krog Street Market popping up recently but you should definitely come here! See what places we checked out below:
Arepa Mia– This is a Venezuelan food stand and it is awesome. Arepas are somewhat like a sanwich which has buns that are made from corn. I loved the Pabellon Arepa because it had plantains and shredded beef! Any of the cachapas (corn pancakes) are awesome too! My friend got the arepa chips which were made from plantains and yucca and they were served with a lime and cilantro sauce that was so fresh!
Panbury’s– I got the mini apple pie and it was the perfect dessert after my arepa. The pies are really flaky and you can get sweet or savory ones!
Sweet Auburn Barbecue– Get the fried ribs!
Grindhouse Burgers– All of the burgers here are so juicy and you really can’t go wrong with this food stand.
Peachtree Center (Streetcar Stop)
Atlanta Marriot Marquis
You have probably seen the inside of this hotel on Instagram before- it is stunning! My friends and I took the elevator to the top and took a moment to enjoy the view!
When you head back to the Peachtree Center stop, you’ll see this structure. We were joking we should take pictures in it and say we’re in Chicago at the bean. Lol
Centennial Olympic Park (Streetcar Stop)
Centennial has most touristy things to do in Atlanta such as the SkyView, World of Coke, and the Georgia Aquarium. Centennial Olympic Park also has big concerts in the summer so I recommend going to one!
When walking back to campus I took this picture of the “pencil building” which is my favorite skyscraper. Overall it was such a beautiful and fun day and I can’t wait to take this street car again!
