Hi everyone! Last week, my friend and I headed to the Hilton hotel in downtown Atlanta to try out Trader Vic’s, a restaurant that serves Pacific Rim dishes! The decor of this restaurant is simply awesome and reminded me of a classy tiki bar! This spot is a $$$ restaurant, just FYI before you’re surprised by the prices. We tried out different drinks and dishes and you can find what I though of them below!
Left: Trader Vic’s Mai Tai– $9- This is a rum drink that also contains lime juice. Note that the one at Trader Vic’s is very acidic.
Right: Tiki Bowl– $18- “A delightful punch of light & dark rums, brandy & almond mixed with orange juice in an earthen bowl supported by three Tikis. (Serves two people)”- My friend and I loved this drink and finished it pretty fast (lol). So fun and delicious- I’ll definitely be back for this!
Cosmo Tidbits– $21.25- “This appetizer includes crispy prawns, crab rangoon, cha siu pork, & BBQ ribs for two”- My friend & I found the pork & BBQ ribs to be a bit average and needed some sauce but we loved the prawns & crab rangoons! The appetizer also comes with 3 dipping sauces which were all tasty!
Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops– $31.50- Stir-fried vegetable lo mein, teriyaki sauce, & bacon wrapped scallops- This was my favorite dish of the night! I couldn’t stop eating the scallops or the lo mein. The scallops are suspended from hooks in their wood-fire ovens & slowly grilled over a fire. Their ovens are custom made & can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. to 220 A.D.)!
Wok Stir-Fried Seafood– $37.75- Lobster tail, scallops, prawns, fresh fish, Chinese vegetables, jasmine rice. Our waiter accidentally thought we ordered this but lucky for us, we got to keep it! I in general am not a big fan of bok choy which is one of the vegetables in this dish. The sauce was also a bit average but I did enjoy the lobster and other seafood in this dish. The shrimp was so plump!
Chef Cheing’s Special Fried Rice– $25.75- Chicken, prawns, cha-siu pork, julienne vegetables- I was happily surprised by this fried rice! I’m a person that’s tempted to put sauce on things but this rice was perfectly salted and didn’t need any additional sauce! I love that it included a variety of proteins in it too!

Banana Foster– “A dessert made from bananas and vanilla ice cream, with a sauce made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur.” Wow what a dessert experience! The waitress made this table-side and the ingredients are topped with a liquer that is lit on fire! The butter and brown sugar become a creamy caramel which go on the bananas which then goes over vanilla ice cream! So delicious and amazing!
I had a great time at Trader Vic’s and will definitely be coming back for the Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops and the fun tiki-themed drinks!!
